African American English (AAE) Speakers Pathway
Overview
As part of the Supporting Language Use in Academic Contexts Module, the African American English (AAE) Speakers Pathway is one of three pathways which follow the interactive Academic Language: Introduction. This interactive course affirms and amplifies the rich cultural and linguistic resources of African American English (AAE) speaking students. We provide an overview and examples of grammatical traits of AAE and explore ways to facilitate AAE speakers’ academic language development. We share culturally responsive, relevant and sustaining recommendations for educator practice, as well as student examples. We share assessment considerations and provide reflection opportunities that encourage users to relate their learning to their future or current practice.
