Standing Together: Bullying Prevention and Response Toolkit Supporting Children and Teens Who Are Neurodivergent
Overview
Bullying can be overwhelming for any child or teen. It can affect their emotions, their learning, and their sense of safety. For students who are neurodivergent, or perceived as neurodivergent, differences in how they learn, communicate, move, or interact can increase their risk of being bullied.
This toolkit includes a video series and set of resources to explore what bullying looks like, what neurodiversity means, and how a child’s brain and behavioral development can influence bullying situations across grade levels. We look at the warning signs, the short- and long-term impacts, and why addressing these issues early, and continuing through adolescence, is vital. You will also learn practical, research-based strategies to support students who are neurodivergent, whether they are experiencing bullying or witnessing it. By connecting what we know from developmental science to everyday routines at school and home, these resources help adults and students become strong allies. Together, we can create inclusive schools and communities where every student feels a sense of belonging, safety, and connection, as well as be fully engaged in learning.
These downloadable resources are divided into two distinct toolkit sets: one for TK–5 (elementary school) and one for grades 6–12 (middle and high school). We have made targeted resources to support the following three groups: students, families, and educators.
