About
Dr. Bonnie Garcia currently serves as the California Statewide Literacy Co-Director for the California Department of Education and is an adjunct professor in the Special Education Program at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). She has previously worked as a program specialist, focusing on special education and literacy programs within a multi-district SELPA, and has taught as both an education specialist and general education teacher in Southern California. Dr. Garcia was also Vice President of the Phi Delta Kappa Chapter at the University of Southern California (USC) and served as a Master of Arts in Teacher – Application First Reviewer at USC. She has also contributed as a Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Visiting Committee Member. Dr. Garcia holds a B.A. in psychology with a minor in business administration from CSUSB and earned her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from California State University, Fullerton. She later received both a Master’s degree and an Education Specialist credential from Azusa Pacific University, followed by a doctorate in educational leadership with an emphasis on teacher education in multicultural settings from USC. Dr. Garcia also completed the administrative credential program through the Association of California School Administrators’ Leadership Institute. Additionally, she is certified as an Associate by the Orton-Gillingham Academy for Practitioners and Educators, where she practices as a structured literacy/dyslexia interventionist.
