About
Elena is a licensed speech-language pathologist (SLP) with research and clinical experience in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). AAC is an umbrella term that describes tools and strategies that support or replace speech for people with communication difficulties. In her current role, Elena oversees several programs that offer opportunities for communication and connection across the lifespan for people who use AAC. These programs include Storytime with AAC - a library-based shared story time for children and teens, ConversAACion - a virtual conversation group for school-age users of AAC, and a social group for adults who need support to use AAC tools. These experiences have given Elena opportunities to develop support systems for authentic expression and connection for people with significant communication support needs.
